I just got married to Laura Dunn! I did a somewhat casual handlettered invitation, since we were having a small, somewhat casual wedding. Our beautiful rings were made by Patrick Burt, and Joel Bock took some great photos for us. And we lived happily ever after...

Geez 20, the Super Cyber issue

This is the 20th issue of Geez magazine, so we're celebrating our 5th anniversary. The cover features a photo by Joel Bock. This issue looks at the pros and cons (and gray areas) of technology on relationships, and life in general.

Typographic oddities in Scotland

Photos of signs I took years ago in Scotland and England. Lots of interesting typography and handlettering there. The one of the old cigarette machine appears to read "ever open kids" but actually reads "ever open kiosk."

George Fox LACI book cover

Book cover I designed for a textbook for the Liberal Arts and Critical Issues senior class at George Fox University. The book includes chapters by various George Fox professors, as well as excerpts by writers such as Wendell Berry, Jim Wallis and John Stott.

Crow secrets

Geez 19, the wild issue, features an excerpt from Crow Planet, a book by Lyanda Lynn Haupt, as well as factoids ("crow secrets") about crows scattered throughout the magazine. I did a few drawings of crows to accompany to excerpt and the crow secrets.

Cookbook ephemera

My coworker and fellow designer Janelle inherited this 1936 Household Searchlight cookbook from her grandmother. It has a cool sculpture-embossed cover and beautifully worn tabs, plus lots of old clipped recipes stuck inside.

Geez civil disobedience essay contest

Poster/ad/image for Geez magazine's civil disobedience essay contest. Anyone can enter, but college and high school students are especially encouraged to write. Thanks to Laura for being my civilly disobedient model.

Invisible t-shirt design

At Twin Rocks Tween camp this year the campers were going to tie-dye their t-shirts. So I did a design to make it a little more fun: we printed white on a white shirt. It wasn't quite invisible before dying, but close. The ink resists the dye, so the design shows up after the shirt is dyed. Pretty cool, huh?

Summer Journal

We just finished the summer issue of the George Fox Journal, with a cover story about football returning to the university in 2013. It seems strange to me to have football at a Quaker school, but it's been played here for much of the school's history, ending in the late 1960s.

Geez 18 stamps

In the Geez body issue, there are these "notes to bodily self" that I designed like postcards, and got to create some fun stamps for them. The notes are from Chronic Babe, a networking forum for women with chronic illness.

The latest Geez magazine is the body issue, featuring an alternative swimsuit edition story that's sure to disappoint, a critique of the mind/body dichotomy, a fat acceptance primer, and a story called "Jesus loves your penis, son." Good stuff.

Geez wins Canadian Church Press awards

"After many years of taking second place to the United Church Observer, Geez magazine won top honours for general excellence at the Canadian Church Press convention in May this year.
